Event: AABC Background Check Forms

The Asian American Baptist Church (hereinafter, “AABC”) organizes and administers a religious educational program for children, youth and adults. In recognition of the increasing incidents of crimes against children and youth by volunteers and paid staff members of organizations to which the children and youth belong, AABC has determined that certain individuals should be disqualified from participating with the children and youth in our program. AABC’s Background Checks Committee (hereinafter, “BCC”) reserves the right to disqualify any applicant who has ever been convicted of any disqualifying offense, has received probation or deferred adjudication for any disqualifying offense, or has any criminal charges currently pending for any disqualifying offense awaiting a determination of guilt or innocence. Credit histories of individuals are not part of this criminal background checks and will not be requested or examined by AABC

Any and all individuals (paid staff employees, interns, ¹ and volunteers) who are working with children and youth (defined as anyone up to 18 years of age) must undergo a backgrounds check before being allowed to serve in and at a church event or ministry. Examples of relevant ministries and events: Sunday School, Nursery Program, TUFF Youth Ministry, Vacation Bible School, Fun Fair, Easter Program, any babysitting done in relation to a church function, etc.

There are three (3) forms that each individual must complete and turn in:

• Staff and Volunteer Code of Ethics and Rules
• Application Form for Volunteers Dealing With Child/Youth Ministries
• VeriFYI Background Verification Release Form

No one will be allowed to serve in the children or youth ministries or events unless they have gone through this process. There are no exceptions.

If anyone designates an AABC pastor or leader as a reference for employment, school application, or placement in a Christian organization (e.g., a missions agency), he/she will need to fill out the Reference Release Form and give it to the pastor or leader. Without this form, the pastor or leader will only be able to confirm attendance and membership of the individual


¹All paid staff employees and interns need to be background checked regardless of whether he/she is serving in a children/youth ministry or otherwise.
